BioWare have revealed that their main protagonists for Mass Effect Andromeda, the selectable male or female player options will be brother and sister. This announcement follows the first gameplay presentation of the game held yesterday.
It has been confirmed by the developers that the sex you select when beginning your play through of the game will determine what sibling players will play as, with the other sibling acting as another character of the storyline. This replaces the previous setup in the series where players would assume the role of Commander Shepard, selectable as either male or female.
This news comes from the creative director of BioWare, Mac Walters, who was narrating the gameplay played in yesterday’s promotion presentation.
Walters stated: “We’re seeing our male character, at E3 we got to see our female character. A little surprise here: these two are actually brother and sister.”
“The both exist in the game world at the same time. If you’re playing as the female Ryder, your brother is out there somewhere in the universe.”
It has been said that the two protagonists will be related to a previously portrayed ‘Ryder’ in the series, and that names will be coming soon.
